Hi Akka,
I was wondering if you could give a little more information on the difference between pakadavu and paraval adavu.
Hi Akka,

Hi Hamshini,
The classification of adavus itself is not based on exact parameters as I explained in the introductory video. The parameters change. Some are based on the articulation of feet and some based on the movement of body in space. Some are named based on the context of placement within a choreography. In that sense there is no exact governing logic for the classification of adavus. These names are only passed on as tradition. Therefore, it is difficult to logically explain a difference between Paraval and pakkadavu other than the fact that we use 4 beats of floor contact in Paraval, and three in Pakkadavu. Both move to the side. I hope this answers your question.
The classification itself is not an exact science as the governing logic varies.
Warmth
Rukmini
